Foreign Body Removal in Pearl City, Hawaii
Safe same-day removal of sand, metal, wood, and other eye debris.
If you have something stuck in your eye — sand, metal, wood, glass, or any other particle — do not rub your eye. Come see us. At Clear Sight Hawaii in Pearl City, we perform foreign body removal safely and thoroughly, and we do our best to see these cases the same day.
Why You Shouldn't Try to Remove It Yourself
Attempting to remove a foreign body from your eye without proper equipment can cause serious additional injury, including corneal scratches, embedded particles, and infection. Our doctor uses a slit lamp microscope and specialized instruments to locate and safely remove foreign objects without causing further damage.
Common Foreign Bodies We Remove
- Sand and dust particles
- Metal shavings (common in welding, grinding, and construction)
- Wood or plant material
- Glass fragments
- Contact lens fragments
- Eyelashes or small fibers
When to Go to the Emergency Room
If the eye itself has been penetrated or the globe has been perforated, please go to the emergency room immediately — that requires surgical intervention. However, we do see many cases of blunt force eye injuries (baseball, soccer ball, nerf projectiles, etc.) where the eyelid protected the eye. If you're unsure, call us first and we will advise you.
After Removal — Treating the Corneal Abrasion
Foreign bodies often leave a corneal abrasion (scratch) when removed. We will treat this at the same visit with antibiotic eye drops to prevent infection and recommend follow-up to confirm healing.
