A comprehensive eye exam is about far more than just checking if you need glasses. At Clear Sight Hawaii, our eye exams evaluate the full health of your eyes — detecting early signs of glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, cataracts, macular degeneration, and other conditions before they affect your vision.
We see patients of all ages — from infants as young as 1 year old to seniors in their 90s. Dr. Jana Murakami provides thorough, unhurried exams tailored to each patient's age, health history, and lifestyle.
What's Included in Your Eye Exam
- Visual acuity testing — how clearly you see at distance and near
- Refraction — determining your glasses or contact lens prescription
- Eye pressure measurement — screening for glaucoma
- External and internal eye health evaluation
- Retinal evaluation — using Optos ultra-widefield imaging (no dilation needed for most patients)*
- Binocular vision and eye coordination assessment
- Color vision and depth perception testing when indicated
How Often Should You Have an Eye Exam?
We recommend annual eye exams for everyone — from infants (first exam at 1 year old) through seniors. Regular exams are especially important for patients with diabetes, glaucoma, or other eye conditions, who may need more frequent monitoring as recommended by their doctor.
New Technology — Optos Retinal Imaging
Clear Sight Hawaii uses an Optos ultra-widefield retinal imaging system. This technology captures 82% of your retina in a single image, allowing us to detect retinal conditions earlier and more accurately — often without the need for dilation drops. *If we see something that requires further investigation, we may still need to dilate your eyes — but you can schedule that for another day if needed.

We accept HMSA, VSP, EyeMed, UHC, Tricare, AlohaCare, UHA, and many other vision and medical insurance plans. Walk-ins welcome — same-day availability depends on our schedule, but we always do our best.
