Senior Eye Care in Pearl City, Hawaii
Comprehensive care for cataracts, glaucoma, AMD, and diabetic eye disease.
As we age, our eyes become more vulnerable to a range of conditions that can threaten our vision and independence. At Clear Sight Hawaii in Pearl City, we provide comprehensive eye care for older adults — with the time, patience, and clinical depth that senior patients deserve.
We see patients from their 60s through their 90s, and we welcome family members to accompany their loved ones to appointments.
Eye Conditions We Monitor and Manage in Seniors
- Cataracts — clouding of the lens, very common after age 60
- Glaucoma — regular pressure monitoring and optic nerve evaluation
- Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) — early detection and monitoring
- Diabetic retinopathy — for patients managing diabetes
- Dry eye disease — very common in older adults
- Hypertensive retinopathy — eye changes related to high blood pressure
- Presbyopia — difficulty reading up close, managed with glasses or multifocal contacts
Optos Imaging — Reducing the Need for Dilation
Dilation drops can be uncomfortable and inconvenient — especially for older patients who may have difficulty with transportation after their appointment. Our Optos ultra-widefield retinal camera allows us to examine most of the retina without dilation drops in most cases, making your visit more comfortable and convenient. *If we see something that requires further investigation, we may still need to dilate — but you can come back another day if needed.
How Often Should Seniors Have Eye Exams?
We recommend annual eye exams for all patients, including seniors. If you are managing glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, or macular degeneration, we may recommend more frequent visits.
Insurance for Senior Patients
We accept Medicare, Medicaid, HMSA, UHC, Tricare for Life, Tricare Retirees, and many other insurance plans. Many of our senior patients' eye care visits are billed as medical visits — not just routine vision exams — which affects coverage. Our staff will help you understand your benefits.
