She grew up in Aiea and graduated from Iolani School before earning a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of California, Irvine. After working as a scientist in the biotechnology industry, she pursued optometry and completed her Doctor of Optometry degree at the Southern California College of Optometry.
Background & Credentials
During her training, she completed an internship at Huhukam Hospital on the Gila River Indian Reservation near Phoenix, Arizona — one of the highest-prevalence areas for diabetes in the United States — which gave her exceptional early experience with diabetic eye disease.
Dr. Murakami has served on the Hawaii Optometric Association board since 2014 and was President from 2021 to 2023. Clear Sight Hawaii opened at this Pearl City Walmart location approximately 1.5 years ago under her leadership. She sees patients of all ages, from a child's first exam at age 1 through seniors in their 90s.
Outside the office, she enjoys time with her dogs, reading, friends and family, and hitting balls at the driving range.
